Introducing Diabetes Prevention Technology Through Hair Analysis
Our company has developed a groundbreaking technology for diabetes prevention with hair analysis.
Specifically, by collecting just a few strands of hair, our innovative analytical method enables precise measurement of the glycated protein levels present in the hair. This method has demonstrated practical accuracy, with sensitivity at 67% and specificity at 96% in its pre-improvement stage. Additionally, the coefficient of variation (CV) achieved is below 5%, ensuring far greater stability compared to self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) methods.
Unlike SMBG, which is often inaccessible to individuals uninterested in their health and prone to errors due to unfamiliarity with blood collection procedures or fluctuations in blood glucose levels, hair analysis observes the correlation with HbA1c. This eliminates concerns about dietary habits, timing, or environmental factors such as temperature during sample transportation.

These research findings were presented at the 72nd Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Analytical Chemistry, the world’s largest analytical chemistry conference, garnering significant attention from numerous attendees.

Furthermore, they were featured as one of the key topics of the year.
Currently, to integrate this technology into the medical field, we are conducting studies at a Japanese national hospital under formal approval by the ethics committee. These studies aim to measure the correlation between glycation proteins in blood and hair, with plans to present the findings at domestic and international conferences and in academic journals in due course. As an example, the predictive capability for diabetes is expected to achieve an AUC of 0.8 or higher.
Furthermore, this research is scheduled to be publicly showcased at the Osaka Expo 2025 in Japan.
Our technology will be featured at the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion from June 24 to June 30, with the exhibition located in the Exhibition Zone.
